A public art piece co-designed as a floating, circular ecosystem that supports nature and contributes to water purification.

Willoasis is designed as a floating willow oasis and a healthy ecosystem. The project consists of multiple rafts made from reclaimed pine wood, previously used in quay walls. Willow branches from pruning waste are also used, making Willoasis a fully circular initiative.
The floating willow structure above the water will bloom beautifully in spring, providing nesting spots for birds and shelter for insects. Underwater, the willow branches thrive as well, serving as a fertile base for aquatic plants and shellfish. This creates an underwater garden with various plant species that can improve water quality and offer a safe habitat for fish and shellfish — which in turn help filter and purify the water of the Marineterrein.

Project team members include: Kristen Zupancic (Plot Twist Placemaking), Amber Beernink, Jasper Riehm, Angela Brnas and many brave volunteers.
